This two-semester course aims to help our students acquire the foundational skills for a
successful and satisfying professional life. The course will consist of three themes:
1) Discussing greatest hits and frontiers in the field
2) The research process, using the projects that participating students are currently
working on.
3) Navigating science and careers: considering the people and institutions that make up the
field, the frameworks in place that support them and the culture that pervades them;
career pathways

This course supports the required field placement for MPA-DP students, providing academic credit for the application of classroom learning to professional practice in a development setting. Students must register for a total of 3 credits across one or two semesters, selecting from six registration options that accommodate varying academic schedules and visa requirements.

Columbia faculty and guest speakers present research related to Labor and Public Economics.
This is a required practicum course for all students in the M.S. in Climate program. Students must complete a required practicum experience with a fieldwork component and simultaneously enroll in CLMT9030.
Students must complete a hands-on, immersive experience in a climate-related role during the summer in between their two years of study. It can be an internship, research assistantship, or similar practical experience. This is a 0 credit degree requirement that offers students the opportunity to apply their academic learning to real-world challenges, gaining practical insights and professional experience. Students will source their own opportunities, but will have the full support and resources of the Career Management team throughout the process.
This course is required for and only open to students in the M.S. in Climate program.
HRSMA students may receive one academic credit for the completion of a relevant internship. The credit would count towards the elective requirement for the degree. In order to receive one credit, students will be required to complete a total of 100 internship hours. The internship must be professional in nature and substantively focused on human rights or social justice. For more information, students should refer to the HRSMA Digital Handbook.
